WG on Simulator Training (SIM)

The Working Group on Simulator Training was established in 2023. Maritime simulators are currently used, and play an important role, for the training of seafarers, but also for the evaluation and validation of knowledge, to replace on-board training, as a test platform for the development of ships and work routines on board, for data collection during verification and testing of new autonomous tools and systems, etc.

This Working Group facilitate cooperation and experience sharing among teachers and simulator instructors by organizing an annual Simulator Instructors’ Camp, digital seminars, hosting a database with peer-reviewed high-quality simulator exercises, develop and maintain a document for “Best practice of Simulation Pedagogy” and develop and provide train-the-trainer courses. This Working Group will also regularly review research regarding maritime simulators and the use of simulators, identify knowledge gaps, and contribute to the international maritime community.
