WG on MET-QUEST – MET QUality Enhancement and Institutional SupporT
IAMU launched the Peer-Assisted Evaluation Scheme (PAES) in 2014 to strengthen Maritime Education and Training (MET) systems for future seafarers. Building on this initiative, IAMU signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Philippines in 2016 (PAES-P) and Kenya in 2018 (PAES-K).
In 2026, the Working Group was renamed the Working Group on MET-QUEST – MET QUality Enhancement and Institutional SupporT.
MET-QUEST reflects the Working Group’s evolution from the PAES framework toward providing broader and more comprehensive support to any maritime higher education institutions (MHEIs) and maritime administrations.
This working group aims to:
- Provide academic advice to strengthen MET curricula for seagoing officers and postgraduate programmes for shore-based personnel.
- Organise workshops with IAMU member universities and MET institutions to improve teaching methods and subject content.
- Share and validate outcomes of the WG activities with the parties involved.
