Indian Maritime University (IMU), Mumbai Port Campus actively participated in the 16th edition of Day of the Seafarer 2026, organized by the National Maritime Day Celebrations (Central) Committee in association with the Directorate General of Shipping, Mumbai, on 25 June 2026 at MPHI Auditorium, SEEPZ, Andheri (East), Mumbai.

The event was conducted under the global theme: “Carrying World Trade. Carrying the Risks.”

A total of 23 Post Sea candidates from LBS CAMSAR & MERI, IMU Mumbai Port Campus, accompanied by three faculty members — Capt. P. K. Singh, Mrs. Lavina Durve, and Dr. S. Thangalakshmi — attended the celebrations.

The programme commenced with the arrival of dignitaries, followed by a Guard of Honour, National Song, lighting of the lamp, and a two-minute silence to honour seafarers who lost their lives during recent maritime crises. The event featured welcome addresses, keynote speeches by eminent maritime leaders, special messages from senior officials, felicitation of meritorious seafarers, release of the NMDC Souvenir 2026, a panel discussion on the theme “Carrying World Trade. Carrying the Risks.”, and cultural performances by seafarers.

The event brought pride to IMU Mumbai Port Campus with multiple recognitions for academic excellence.

The following Post Sea candidates received Certificates of Appreciation from the National Maritime Day Celebrations (Central) Committee for securing the highest marks in the respective Certificate of Competency Examinations – 2025:

  • Mr. George Santhacruz Anish (NWKO – NCV) received the Certificate of Appreciation for securing the highest marks in the Navigational Watch Keeping Officer (Near Coastal Voyages) Certificate of Competency Examination – 2025.
  • Mr. Sachin Rajan (Master NCV) received the Certificate of Appreciation for securing the highest marks in the Master NCV (Near Coastal Voyages) Certificate of Competency Examination – 2025.
  • Mr. Mohammed Sajid (Chief Mate NCV Phase II) was recognised for securing the highest marks in the Chief Mate NCV (Near Coastal Voyages) Certificate of Competency Examination – 2025.Among them, Mr. George Santhacruz Anish and Mr. Sachin Rajan received their certificates in person during the event.

In addition, during the felicitation for academic excellence and educational grants, Cadet Sananda Nath, I Year Cadet, IMU Mumbai Port Campus, was recognised for securing the highest marks in IMUCET 2025 (B.Tech category). She was honoured with the MASSA Educational Grant, comprising a cash award of ₹50,000 and a certificate, in recognition of her outstanding academic performance. Although the award was formally presented in Chennai, her achievement was also acknowledged during the Mumbai event, where her name was announced and her photograph was displayed as part of the felicitation ceremony.

The participation and achievements of IMU Mumbai Port Campus at the Day of the Seafarer 2026 celebrations reflect the campus’s continued commitment to academic excellence, professional competency, and maritime education. The event served as a meaningful platform to honour seafarers and recognise the dedication and achievements of maritime professionals and cadets.
