At the National Maritime College of Ireland, we are proud to support and encourage women pursuing careers both at sea and ashore across maritime education, engineering, navigation, offshore renewable energy, logistics and beyond.

Our NMCI Women On Water (NMCI WoW) group brings together female staff, lecturers, and students from across the college, creating a welcoming and supportive community within NMCI. These informal gatherings provide an invaluable opportunity for first year Nautical Science students, along with second year Marine Engineering and Marine Electrotechnology cadets who are about to start their own sea-time placements, to hear directly from senior students about life at sea, adapting to long periods away from home, and taking on real responsibility at an early stage in their careers.

These lunch time sessions encourage open and honest conversations in a friendly atmosphere, helping students build confidence, share experiences and learn from those who have already navigated many of the same challenges and opportunities. By connecting students with experienced peers and staff, WOW continues to foster a strong support network that empowers women to thrive within the maritime industry.
