Tamera Gilmartin

State University of New York Maritime College

Tamera is an Assistant Professor at the State University of New York Maritime College where she teaches a variety of navigation related courses and has been responsible for several experiential learning programs including Summer Sea Term as Senior Deck Training Officer onboard the school’s training vessel. She currently holds a Chief Mate Unlimited License and spent her sailing career on a variety of vessels including Research Vessels, Containerships, Tankers, and Military Supply Vessels. Her education includes a B.S. in Marine Operations and Technology, a M.A. in Learning and Emerging Technologies, and is pursuing a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction. Tamera’s focus on experiential learning led her to explore the use of 360 Degree Videos with  Virtual Reality as a teaching platform and has been the Primary Investigator for several grant funded projects including the IAMU Development Grant, “Development of a VR Training Video Database”.
