The School of Maritime Studies, Centurion University of Technology and Management, Odisha, India, celebrated the International Day of the Seafarer 2026 on 25 June 2026.
The event was held to recognise and honour the invaluable contributions of seafarers to global trade, maritime transport, and the world economy. It brought together the Dean, Dr Prasheet Mishra, Principal, Capt. Rajendra Narayan Satapathy, faculty members, maritime professionals, and cadets, both on campus and online, to reflect on the challenges, responsibilities, and risks faced by seafarers in the global maritime industry.
The programme commenced at 3:30 p.m. with a welcome address by the Dean, followed by an address from the Principal. Technical presentations were then delivered by Capt. Gaurav Chhabra on “Digital Transformation in Maritime Safety & Mental Well-being” and Capt. Sanjay Saxena on “Carrying the World: The Reality of the Modern Seafarer.” Both speakers shared professional insights based on their seafaring careers.

The programme also included an open interaction session, during which Mr Sudip Choudhary, Head of Placements, shared his thoughts and experiences related to the theme of the day. The event concluded with a vote of thanks at 5:00 p.m., followed by refreshments.
The event was successfully conducted and well received by students and faculty members. It enhanced cadets’ awareness of the contributions and challenges of seafarers and is proposed to be held annually as part of the School’s calendar of maritime awareness initiatives.
