The Caribbean Maritime University (CMU), through its Office of Marketing and Communications, hosted “Maritime Cargo Quest” on June 25, 2026, in observance of the International Day of the Seafarer.
Held under the theme “Carrying World Trade, Carrying the Risks,” the interactive event highlighted the essential role of seafarers in global trade, the risks associated with life at sea, and the importance of maritime education and training.
Participants moved through five educational booths featuring activities on global shipping routes, maritime safety, emergency equipment, decision-making under pressure, seafarers’ experiences and career pathways within the maritime industry. Activities included plotting shipping routes on a world map, learning about life jackets and fire extinguishers, and participating in a timed fire-suit challenge.
The event was supported by CMU Marine Cadets, the Professional Training Centre, the Office of Student Services and the Office of Marketing and Communications. It also showcased CMU’s role in preparing maritime professionals through academic training, cadet development, sea time, examinations and certification.
Maritime Cargo Quest provided an engaging platform for the CMU community to gain a deeper appreciation of the men and women who carry world trade while navigating the demands and risks of maritime work.
