Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the International Executive Board (IEB) decided actions taken for the IAMU’s events, projects and activities in FY2020.
Chair’s message (IAMU’s responses to COVID-19)
Dear IAMU member universities,
The International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU) has carefully monitored the situation of the outbreak of the 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and measures taken by organizations in international circumstances since the beginning of March 2020. To avoid any risks caused by COVID-19, the International Executive Board (IEB) decided to conduct the 11th session of the IEB meeting electronically instead of a planned face-to-face meeting which was scheduled to be hosted by Batumi State Maritime Academy in April 2020.
Action Taken for Iamu activities in fy2020

1. Major events in 2020
IAMU Student Forum 2020
IAMU Student Forum 2020 in July has been cancelled.
Action: The event shall be postponed to the following year after having consultation with the External Relation Office at IMO.
AGA 21 (incl. IAMUC and IAMUS) in October, Batumi, Georgia
AGA 21 (incl. IAMUC and IAMUS) in October, Batumi, Georgia has been cancelled.
Action: The events shall be postponed to the following year.
Host universities of AGA21 and 22
AGA21 in October 2021, hosted by AASTMT, Alexandria, Egypt
AGA22 in October 2022, hosted by BSMA, Batumi, Georgia
AGA23 in October 2023, call for host of AGA 23 will be announced in July 2021 and decision will be made at IEB14 (AGA21) in October 2021
2. Funded projects’ activity in FY2020
Research Project in FY2019
Action: In principle, all research teams of the funded project in FY2019 should submit their final reports by the end of May as described in their contract papers. However a special extension of the project deadline may be available upon request in a written format with clear reasons caused by issues on COVID-19, which should be submitted from the research contractor to the Secretariat by the end of April 2020.
Research Project in FY2020
Action: The research/project period of each project selected in FY2020 will be shifted to FY2021, i.e. from May 2021 to May 2022 for RP.
In principle, other conditions, including the budget, described in the research projects remain the same.
Research Project in FY2021
Action: A call for Research Projects FY2021 has been terminated.
Organizational Development Projects in FY2020
Action: The project period of each project selected in FY2020 will be shifted to FY2021, i.e. from May 2021 to March 2022.
In principle, other conditions, including the budget, described in the organizational development projects remain the same.
Organizational Development Projects in FY2021
Action: Call for Organizational Development Projects FY 2021 will not take place.
3. Other activities involving international collaboration and meetings
Action: For all activities performed under IEB and SCs, the Secretariat will readily assist
those members to organize online meetings to achieve the objectives of the activities.
4. New Terms of the office of IEB members
Regional, at large representatives and special members
New term: from April 2020 to March 2023 (one year extension)

BSMA (host of AGA22): from April 2019 to March 2023 (one year extension)
AASTMT(host of AGA21): from April 2020 to March 2022 (the same term as before)
