The 4th Kotor International Maritime Conference held 27-29 November 2024 was another great opportunity for gathering and further networking of IAMU members. In addition, Professor Piotr Kopacz, capt. from the Gdynia Maritime University, saw it as an opportunity for a special gesture towards the Faculty of Maritime Studies Kotor (University of Montenegro). Prof. Kopacz brought 9 seedlings to be planted in the Faculty yard in Kotor, as a token of appreciation for the cooperation and friendship. The planting was carried out by the professors and other Faculty staff, but also the students of the Faculty of Maritime Studies Kotor who promised to take good care of the plants and trees.
The bonds between the two Universities started with the accession of the Faculty of Maritime Studies Kotor to IAMU. As initiated by Professor Kopacz, the two IAMU members started the exchange of student visits. In May this year, two students from the Gdynia Maritime University spent a week at the Faculty of Maritime Studies Kotor. They shared the classes and practical exercises with their fellow students in Kotor, including a three-day educational cruise on a training ship with the Montenegrin Navy. The negotiations for the Montenegrin students’ visit are underway, along with discussions about other possible areas of collaboration between the two MET institutions.
