As part of the Day of the Seafarer 2025 celebrations, the Indian Maritime University, Kolkata Campus, in collaboration with the Maritime Association of Shipowners, Shipmanagers and Agents (MASSA), commemorated the occasion with a meaningful initiative. Given that cadets were on term break following their end-semester examinations, no large-scale event was organized. However, the spirit of the day was honoured through the recognition of academic excellence and gender empowerment in maritime education.
The Maritime Association of Shipowners, Shipmanagers and Agents (MASSA) has graciously sponsored a cash award of ₹50,000 each to two Meritorious Girl Cadets of IMU Kolkata Campus, in recognition of their outstanding academic excellence and to promote the role of women in the maritime sector.
The recipients of this prestigious award are the top CET Rank Holders from the 2024 Batch of B. Tech (Marine Engineering) cadets:
- Cadet Didrika Dutta
- Cadet Shruti Pandey
Since the cadets are currently on term vacations, the certificate and cheque were formally handed over to Cadet Didrika Dutta on 23rd June 2025, in the presence of faculty and staff at the campus. The award will be presented to Cadet Shruti Pandey upon her return to the campus in early August 2025.
This initiative is a remarkable gesture by MASSA to encourage and empower girl cadets in the maritime field and reflects a continued commitment to promoting gender diversity and excellence in maritime education.
