As part of the Peer-Assisted Self Evaluation Scheme – Philippines (PAES-P) project, the Working group of PAES-P / International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU) conducted a site visit to Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University (ZPPSU) on 17–18 November 2025.
The visit was led by Johan Eliasson Ljungklint, Lecturer at Chalmers University of Technology, and Prasanna Kumar Rajakumaran, Associate Professor and Head of the School of Marine Engineering and Technology at Indian Maritime University, Chennai.
The hosting team from ZPPSU included Dr. Jefforey S. Mojana, Dean of the Marine Engineering Faculty; Dr. Maria Christina G. Wee, Vice President for Academic Affairs; and Ms. Christine B. Sisnorio, Quality Assurance Office Manager, together with their dedicated staff and students.
The peer visit focused on sharing best practices in teaching, development of Marine Higher Education programs and collaboration. Structured around clear objectives and constructive dialogue, the sessions provided valuable insights for continuous improvement and future development.
PAES-P builds on the original PAES initiative launched in 2013, which developed a methodology to help maritime institutions improve academic curricula considering diverse socio-cultural contexts and academic traditions in higher education.
This activity follows IAMU’s renewed Memorandum of Understanding with MARINA in 2024, aimed at strengthening Maritime Education and Training (MET) institutions in the Philippines through academic advice, curriculum development, and collaborative workshops.
