The celebration of the International Day of the Seafarer traditionally began with a solemn procession of cadets of the Batumi State Maritime Academy.
During the march, the cadets of the Maritime Academy honored the memory of Anatoly Kacharava, one of the founders and the first head of the Georgian fleet Captain of Deep Sea Going, and the Fallen cadets.
The students of the Maritime Academy, accompanied by the wind orchestra, joined the official part of the event organized by the Maritime Transport Agency and took the oath of allegiance in a solemn atmosphere.
The sailors were congratulated on their professional day, and the honored representatives of the maritime sector were awarded by the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Natia Turnava, Chairman of the Adjara government Tornike Rizhvadze and the head of the Maritime Transport Agency Tamar Ioseliani and the Mayor of Batumi Archil Chikovani.
This year’s Day of the sailor, together with the Georgians, was celebrated by the crew members of the HMS Defender of one of the most powerful fighters of the British Navy.
Tamar Ioseliani, Director of the Maritime Transport Agency, Tamar Ioseliani, Director of the Maritime Transport Agency, presented the Certificate of Appreciation to the crew of the Georgian vessel for their outstanding courage at sea, which also nominated for the International Maritime Organization’s “Courage at Sea” award.
