Reformation of the WG on the GMP Implementation
Following the IEB’s approval for the reformation of the working group on GMP Implementation at the 22nd session of the IEB meeting in October 2025, the Executive Director convened a joint online meeting with the heads and advisors of the WG on GMP Implementation and GMP-BoK Review and Revision Committee (so-called the GMP experts) on 9 December 2025, in which the GMP experts were invited to recommend an appropriate process to reform the WG on the GMP Implementation as a new WG on the GMP Initiative.
Terms of reference for the WG on the GMP Initiative
For the further sustainability and development of the GMP Initiative, the WG on the GMP Initiative shall:

- Develop a systematic mechanism for raising awareness about the GMP-BoK within member universities;
- Keep monitoring gaps between the contents of the GMP-BoK and requirements of the maritime industry;
- Complete and supervise the self-evaluation scheme including the development of the training system for reviewers;
- Hold a working group meeting once in FY2026 and make progress report at the 24th session of the IEB in Split.
Suggested action plan for the Working Group in FY2026
To accomplish the terms of reference shown above, the following action will be taken.

- To form the WG on GMP Initiative with the support of GMP experts
- To organize a webinar or an online meeting for raising awareness of the GMP-BoK in September 2026
- To carry out a pilot project for the self-evaluation scheme in FY2026
- To organize an online training course in FY2026
- To submit the progress report at the 24th session of the IEB in Split
Who should apply to be the head of the WG
Therefore, IAMU invites academic staff at an IAMU member university to consider taking the helm of the WG. In this respect, the following knowledge and experience are recommended.
The desirable head should be an academic staff at an IAMU member university:

- who has experience in a managerial position at an IAMU member university;
- who has experience in the curriculum development in an MET on Deck or Engine; and
- who understands the concepts of the GMP-BoK.

The Secretariat with the support of GMP experts will organise the selection process including an interview in due course.
Terms of office to be the head of the WG is for 3 years, but reappointment is not prohibited.
