Batumi State Maritime Academy organized a NATO Advanced Training Course (ATC) on “Autonomous Ship Navigation” from 28 September to 4 October 2025. The training was conducted within the framework of the NATO Science for Peace and Security Programme (SPS) and represented an important step in the advancement of modern navigation.

The one-week course was led by international professors from various universities and institutions, who delivered lectures and shared expertise in the field of autonomous ship navigation.

Students and faculty members from Batumi State Maritime Academy, together with representatives of the Georgian Hydrography Service and the Maritime Transport Agency of Georgia, participated in the training. In total, around 100 people attended the course each day.

The event opened with a presentation by Admiral Luigi Sinapi, Director of the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO), who spoke about the new navigation safety standard — S-100 — and innovative approaches to its implementation.

This event marked a significant step forward for the development of maritime education and science in Georgia, promoting the introduction of new technologies and the exchange of international experience.
