On 6 July 2016, Dr. Takeshi Nakazawa, the Executive Director of IAMU, on behalf of the IAMU Chair, Dr. Neil Bose and Dr. Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry of WMU President visited Mr. Kitack Lim, the Secretary-General of IMO.
The main purpose of this visit is to provide further explanation of the Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) between IAMU and WMU, which was signed on 23 May 2016 in the presence of Dr. Nakazawa and Mr. Nicolaos Charalambous, Director of Technical Co-operation Division of the IMO on behalf of Mr. Lim.
This five-year MoU encourages collaborative relationship between IAMU and WMU in a range of academic activities through the IAMU’s international network for delivering IMO’s policy and governance to the international maritime community effectively.
“This MoU establishes academic collaboration between WMU and IAMU. It brings more opportunities for junior teaching staff of maritime universities to learn of the IMO system and maritime governance at international and local levels”, stated Dr. Nakazawa.
