The International Day of the Seafarer is celebrated annually on June 25th, starting from 2011, for their vital contributions to international maritime trade, the global economy, and society as a whole. It was established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in 2010.

The day highlights the need to promote a safe and respectful working environment for seafarers, with this year’s theme focusing on building a harassment-free ship.

Seafarers day was celebrated in IMU NMC (Indian Maritime University -Navi Mumbai Campus) on 25th June 2025. All the faculty members, instructors and admin staff assembled in the conference room at 1630 hrs for celebration.

Director welcomed and conveyed his greetings to all the members. DR(admin) conveyed his greetings by giving rose flower to all of them.

 Director asked all the seafarers to share their memorable incidents when they were at sea. It started with Capt. Parag Mehrotra and then gone around Capt. Majumdar, Mr. Ashok Kaku, Capt. Giby John, Capt. Yogesh Shah, Capt. Madan Kumar, Capt. Deepak Karan, Mr. Kabal Singh, Mr. Anil Kumar and Mr. Kiran Desai.

Director concluded that the shared life incidents from everyone could be given as case study to the cadets and also to understand the need of “Safety first, safety last, safety always”in unpredictable situation at Sea.

It is aptly said ‘Seafarers go to sea again and again to come back home to unite with family”.

The meeting ended with high tea on a joyful note.
