University of Transport in Ho Chi Minh (UT-HCMC), managed by Ministry of Transport was founded in 2001 basing on Ho Chi Minh Branch of Vietnam Maritime University with 50 year experience in high quality training. Our training fields include transport industries such as motorway, navigation, railway, inland waterway and civil aviation. Our University consists of 8 specialised faculties with 15 major fields of long term program, 5 disciplines of Master program, which is over 10,000 students of all programs. Up to now, over 9,000 students have graduated from our University. Navigation faculty and Marine Engineering faculty, one of the solid strengths of training and education in our University, have achieved considerable interest and investment in a block of the maritime training labs satisfied with the IMO standards. About 400 navigation students have graduated and employed in domestic and foreign sea-going vessels every year. Besides that, the Maritime Training Center belonging our University offers about 90 training courses, particularly training courses in term of updating knowledge to take exam at navigation management officer and issues over 2,400 Maritime safety certificates for seafarers residing in the South.
In early July, over 12,000 students took the University entrance examination, including 3 subjects as Maths, Physics and Chemistry, to the UT-HCMC and now our lecturers are marking their tests. We suppose about 2,000 students passing the exam are going to enroll in our University in this September.
At present, we are in cooperation with Center for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH)/ Hellenic Institute of Transport (HIT), the project manager, to implement the Grace project, namely Integrating Environment Concepts in the Asian Maritime Transport Policy (GRACE), financed by the European Community. This project will last in 2 years and its objective is to raise the awareness of the Governmental Authorities in Asia with regard to the methodologies, techniques and best practices currently available in Europe.
