The California Maritime Academy (CMA)

Overview:

Located in Vallejo, California, The California Maritime Academy (Cal Maritime) (founded 1929 - current enrollment 828) is a unique and specialized campus of The California State University offering bachelor's degrees in business administration, facilities engineering technology, global studies and maritime affairs, marine engineering technology, marine transportation, and mechanical engineering. Cal Maritime is one of only seven degree-granting maritime academies in the United States - and the only one on the West Coast.

A specialized education combining classroom instruction, experiential learning, and professional development prepare students for successful careers in international business and logistics, maritime policy, engineering, technology, or in the maritime and transportation industries. International travel, training, and experiences - including a two-month international training cruise onboard the Training Ship GOLDEN BEAR - prepare students in fields that are increasingly global in nature. Cal Maritime is committed to being a leading educational institution recognized for excellence in the business, engineering, operations, and policy of the transportation and related industries of the Pacific Rim and beyond.

Updates:

Cal Maritime is currently constructing a new $13-million Simulator Center, scheduled for completion in the fall of 2007. The new facility will consolidate and upgrade the school's simulation facilities, adding two 360-degree bridge simulators and new tug and barge simulations. When completed, the center will become one of the world's premier maritime simulation facilities and a resource for undergraduate and continuing education.

Cal Maritime has announced plans, in cooperation with Dalian Maritime University, Dalian, China, to initiate a Masters-level program in supply chain security in late 2007 or early 2008. The program will be offered through Dalian to members of the Chinese business community involved in supply chain logistics and security. It will be taught by faculty from both Cal Maritime and Dalian.

Cal Maritime will host the first-ever conference on "Teaching and Learning in the Maritime Environment," March 29-30, 2007 at the school's Vallejo campus. The event will bring together scholars and students and individuals from the maritime trade and transportation community interested in learning more about teaching at the university level. More than 40 papers and presentations are scheduled for delivery during the three-day program. For more information, visit the Academy website at www.csum.edu
