The Australian Maritime College (AMC) was established in 1978 in Northern Tasmania as the national centre for maritime education, training and research. Today, it is one of the world's best-equipped maritime institutions and has established a reputation for the provision of quality and relevant education and training to maritime industries throughout the world. While the original role of providing a quality education for seafarers remains a core function, AMC has activities across a wide range of maritime-related areas. AMC offers courses from certificate to doctoral level, including engineering (naval architecture, ocean engineering and marine and off-shore systems engineering); fisheries, ecology and conservation (marine resource management, fisheries technology, and marine and coastal conservation); maritime operations (marine engineering, navigation, nautical studies and vessel operations); and maritime transport and logistics management (maritime business and MBA).
AMC has three campuses. The main campus and administration centre is situated six kilometers from the city centre in Launceston. Programs in engineering, maritime operations, maritime business and logistics are delivered from this campus. Programs in fisheries and ecology, marine resource management and vessel operations are delivered at Beauty Point, about 50km north of Launceston, where AMC's training and research vessels are moored. AMC's Victorian campus is the home of the National Centre for Marine and Coastal Conservation located at Point Nepean on the Mornington Peninsula. AMC also provides fire fighting training at our Fire Fighting Centre, located at Bell Bay, north of the main College campus at Newnham.
AMC's Internet site will provide visitors with interesting, accessible and relevant information about its broad range of courses, research specialities, facilities, staff, publications, scholarships and services.
