Call for Research Proposals for All Academic Staff in FY2020

In FY2010, the IAMU launched a research project system (supported by The Nippon Foundation) to bring about further progress in capacity building among the IAMU member universities. This research project system has been renewed from FY2018 by launching a new research project system. The IAMU Research Project system is divided into two frameworks, one for All Academic Staff and the other for Young Academic Staff.

 

The International Association of Maritime Universities is pleased to announce the call for research proposals for All Academic Staff in FY2020. All academic staff of IAMU member universities are invited to propose research projects for All Academic Staff of which the research period is from May 2020 to May 2020.

Guideline – Research Proposals for All Academic Staff

(Research Period:  May 2020 to May 2021)

Theme 1: Needs, challenges and future concepts of the current and new generations of MET

Research fund: Max. USD 60,000 

Possible key concepts to be structured and explored within the theme, not limited to the following:

  • Autonomous ships
  • Dynamic positioning (DP)
  • Virtual Reality (VR) – Augmented Reality (AR) – Mixed Reality (MR) – Head Mounted Displays (HMDs)
  • Internet of things (IOT)
  • Cyber Security
  • S-Mode and E-Navigation
  • Professional – soft skills
  • Information Communication Technology (ICT)

Desirable Goals

  • Introducing new concepts of MET
  • Applying emerging marine technologies
  • Appraising international ILOs or PLOs for new curricula
  • Recommending guidelines for professionalism by linking MET to the industry

Theme 2: Future opportunities and challenges of the sustainability of maritime industry

Research fund: Max. USD 60,000

Possible key concepts to be structured and explored within the theme, not limited to the following:

  • Energy efficiency, GHG mitigation
  • Air pollutants emission control
  • Alternative fuels and cleaner/ renewable energy
  • Ship recycling
  • Leadership, resource management and safety culture of Seafarers
  • Professionalism, attitude and behavior

Desirable Goals

  • Proposing new concept for efficiency of maritime industry
  • Cost – benefit analysis for applying new technologies in ships
  • Enhancing environmental protection and sustainability
  • Assessing future perspective of the human element in the maritime industry

Theme 3: Optional theme

Research fund:  Max. USD 60,000

Applicants to this optional theme are required to describe possible key concepts to be structured and explored within the theme as well as a couple of desirable goals in their application forms (Form 1-B)

 

Note:

Each IAMU member university can submit only one (1) proposal per theme.

Form 1-A is for Theme 1 and 2

Form 1-B is only for Theme 3

Form 2 is for Budget.
