On 23 May 2016 at the Old City Hall of Malmo City in Sweden, Dr. Neil Bose of IAMU Chair and Dr. Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry, President of the World Maritime University signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU) and the World Maritime Universities (WMU). Dr. Takeshi Nakazawa, the Executive Director of IAMU and Mr. Nicolaos Charalambous, Director of Technical Co-operation Division of the IMO on behalf of Mr. Kitack Lim, the Secretary-General of the IMO witnessed this signature.

The agreement recognizes the mutual interest of collaborative relationship between IAMU and WMU, which covers academic activities including Maritime Education, Training and Research through IAMU’s network of maritime universities.

Dr. Nakazawa, the Executive Director of IAMU emphasized that the signature of this MoU aims to establish academic collaboration and partnerships between WMU and IAMU which encourages IAMU’s member universities to cooperate each other in research and overall academic development in the maritime education.

This five-year MoU is also to promote the future collaboration with other maritime universities in the world through IAMU’s network which described in The Report of Study on the Financial Sustainability of WMU submitted to the 114th Session of the IMO Council in 2015.
